Gardens, or Lack Thereof
One trend I see Mirians do is to get rid of the garden or garden lawn or anything that is green. They would fill and pave the whole ground with concrete or bricks.
And then they wonder why the days are so hot.
They will then add in even more air conditioning, which makes the area around the house even hotter, until it's a place nobody wants to stay at. So when they get home they immediately hide indoors and turn on the air conditioning because the surrounding is just so unbearable, at the same time increasing the electricity bills and cost of living inevitably.
Look, the garden lawn may take some maintenance to cut, but the garden and lawn not only cools down the surroundings of the house, but they make your otherwise humdrum view out the window a lot better. Sometimes just going out to walk on the lawn or in the garden will take in some sun while you're at it.
Unless you're a vampire and are afraid of the sun. Which I will get into in a later post.
I know a lot of people will complain about the dead leaves, some dust from the pots, etc dropping on the ground and 'messing' up the house. Well I got news for you - if you don't have a garden, it's going to get dusty either way, and leaves are going to be blowing into the compound fron elsewhere - so deal with it. The last thing you want to do is to chop down trees just because of a little tree leaves falling onto your ground.
If not the lawn, so at least a potted garden, with a variety of plants, both tall and horizontal (vines), around windows, would greatly enhance the look and feel out of your windows, cool temperatures, and blocks strong winds. These potted plant require little maintenance, basically a trim, some sweeping, and that's about it.
I'm not even going to go into details about the benefits of having plants and lawn around the house. You can search that thing up on the internet. Or verbally ask it on your phone, for the much younger of my readers (of which there aren't that many of you, because who still reads blogs in 2020?).
I will just leave you with this. I remember one Korean guy visiting town, and he was noticing that the trees are getting cut down left and right all over town. To which he then said, (among many other things) "one tree is equal to one lifetime of an air conditioning unit".
