Stupid Miri House Design Elements

 These design trends need to stop.

Weird stick-on elements.
They say it is to break up the blank space visually in the roof, but if you can design the roof well there won't be such blank space problems to begin with!

Inconsistent floors:
Have the floor the same level throughout the house, not go up and down within the same storey of the house. The only floor level that needs to be much higher than the rest of the house is the toilet, because water flows downhill. Houses that have the floor level that needs to go up or down a step or two may seem creative in theory, but it just increases trips and fall along that area. Flat floor all the way from front door to back door.

Outside toilets.
In modern times, toilets are on the inside of the house. Anyone who designs or approves of the toilet/bathroom that needs to be accessed from the outside needs to be shot.

Toilet Piping

Speaking of toilets, all drainage outlet piping should be above 3.5 inches in diameter. The puny 1.5 - 2inch pipes don't cut it. All it takes is a bucket of water and the drainage can't drain it fast enough. Even a long enough shower would not be able to discharge the water in time.

Roof Gutters

Same with gutters. Gutters need to be at least 5 inches to discharge our monsoon waters. And the less they bend around the better. The best designed rain gutters would bend only once: horizontally from the eves of the roof to vertically to the downspout and drain on the ground - that's it. The more bends you introduce to the gutter and downspout the more risk you pose to overflowing your gutters and introducing leaks and mold to your roof / ceilings. Fascia-type gutters are OK, but have more outflow to downspouts, not just one at each corner. Also, the less aesthetic bends and crease in your fascia-type gutter the better. I don't know what is up with those designs that like to put all sorts of creases and lines on them.

Anyone who tells you that you should redirect your already very underflowed gutters into a particular direction because of "feng shui" should be fed to crocodiles. Not only do you have to spend the money to redo the gutters and downspouts, but they make your gutters overflow and your roof leak in the future? 

P.S. I think rain chains are great.

Spindly Pillars
Pillars should be proportional. Not too big, but not too skinny either. In my personal opinion, the pillar should be at least about 1/10 the width of the house. This is purely aesthetic, so if you're on a budget, this can be entirely ignored. Although at the end of the day, buying some bricks and cement and 'buffing' up your pillar isn't really going to cost that much either.

Speaking of pillars, these elements don't serve any purpose other than to make the design more messy and add more unnecessary cost to your house.

Roofs that cover the entire land

What're you, a witch / vampire that's afraid of the sun and rain?

Non-Centered, Poorly Lit Lights
Look at the above picture and tell me that light is centered in the porch. And tell me that one light is going to solve all of their porch lighting needs??
